The Pavilion

The circular pavilion, also designed by the artist, was built especially for the sculpture and is subject to a stringent construction principle. It has a diameter of 6 metres and a height of 8 metres. In the elevation, a full circle is inscribed in the pavilion and divided down the middle. The cupola begins at this division.

The floor is made of Untersberg marble and a blue, 3-centimetre-thick ring of Azul Bahia is inlaid into the floor – this ring symbolizes the earth. The moon made of Carrara marble at the top of the cupola is in proportion to the blue ring at the bottom, which symbolizes the earth. The bottom is divided 12 times within the blue ring and 24 times in the outer circle, just as the cupola consists of 24 parts.

This division is a reference to the 24 hours of the day. The formal composition of the architecture is based on exact proportions, and its symbolism refers to universal laws.
